Yoga and Mental Health: A Four-Month Series on the Three Malas
Embark on a transformative journey with our four-month yoga series dedicated to understanding and overcoming the three malas: Anava Mala, Mayiya Mala, and Karma Mala. Each month, we will dive deep into one of these concepts, using yoga to clear mental and emotional obstacles, culminating in a comprehensive integration in September.
June: Anava Mala (The Veil of Smallness)
Theme: Overcoming Self-Doubt and Embracing Self-Worth Description: This month focuses on Anava Mala, the veil that obscures our true potential and makes us feel small or inadequate. Through grounding postures, heart-opening asanas, and empowering affirmations, we will work to dissolve self-limiting beliefs and cultivate a deep sense of self-worth. Key Practices: • Heart-opening sequences • Grounding and centering asanas • Affirmations for self-love and confidence • Meditation on worthiness
July: Mayiya Mala (The Veil of Illusion) Theme: Dispelling Illusions and Gaining Clarity Description: In July, we will tackle Mayiya Mala, the veil of illusion that distorts our perception of reality. Using balancing poses, breathwork, and mindfulness techniques, we will learn to see through mental illusions and develop clarity and insight. Key Practices: • Balancing postures • Pranayama (breath control) • Mindfulness and awareness exercises • Meditation on clarity and truth
August: Karma Mala (The Veil of Action)
Theme: Releasing Past Actions and Emotional Baggage Description: This month, our focus is on Karma Mala, the veil created by past actions and their lingering effects on our mental and emotional state. We will engage in dynamic sequences, cleansing kriyas, and forgiveness practices to release past traumas and emotional burdens, fostering a sense of freedom and renewal. Key Practices: • Dynamic flow sequences • Cleansing kriyas (purification techniques) • Practices of forgiveness and letting go • Meditation on release and renewal
September: Integration of the Three Malas
Theme: Achieving Holistic Mental Clarity and Emotional Balance Description: In our final month, we will bring together the teachings and practices from the previous three months, integrating our work on Anava Mala, Mayiya Mala, and Karma Mala. This comprehensive approach will help solidify the transformation, leading to profound mental clarity, emotional balance, and inner peace. Key Practices: • Integrative sequences combining heart-opening, balancing, and dynamic poses • Pranayama techniques • Holistic meditation practices • Reflective journaling questions
