Alignment Yoga 1 visit free From $5 per visit with Child/Teen Yoga Drop-in pass No purchase required to enroll

In this class, students will learn basic principles of alignment in each yoga posture according to the guidelines set forth by the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar. There is not a "one size fits all" approach to alignment, but rather determining what works for each body, with an emphasis on the experience and action in a pose versus what it should "look like." Although each pose will be approached individually (not within a vinyasa format,) the practice will be challenging and rigorous, and will demand concentration and specific effort from each student.

Alignment yoga uses props such as blocks, straps, and chairs to attain precise placement of the body in the asana to maximize the benefit and therapeutic value. The use of the yoga wall will also be included in this class to further explore the poses. This class will be structured to adapt to all students, using variations of each pose for different levels of experience and ability.

Alignment 1 1 visit free From $5 per visit with Child/Teen Yoga Drop-in pass No purchase required to enroll

This class will use the application of an alignment yoga practice to address students’ specific health and physical challenges that may not normally be addressed in a group class. The goal is to alleviate or reduce symptoms such as pain and muscle tension and stiffness, and also work proactively to restore balance in the body by using presence and awareness as techniques for healing. Alignment principles are not a "one size fits all," but rather an approach to see what is appropriate for your body, and stressing the experience and action in a pose, rather that what a pose should "look like." This class is good for those new to yoga or those who wish to take a more deliberate and intentional approach to their practice. The challenge in this practice can come from learning new poses or in asking the body to pay attention in a new way.

The class will maintain a slower pace and have a primary focus on using props such as chairs, straps, and blocks, to allow all students to access the benefits of various asanas, with modifications for any physical limitations. The goal is to increase range of motion, build strength and flexibility, and work with the specific challenges of each student. The class content will be determined largely by the individuals participating in the class.

Please note that this class is not a substitute for medical care and oversight of an injury or illness. Students should have the approval from their physician to participate in a group exercise class.
